• Hi, where’s my Tessel?

    Monday, March 21, 2016

Hello! Many of you are getting antsy about Tessel shipments. This is totally reasonable, and trust me - we hate the wait at least as much as you do.

We had thought Tessel 2s would begin shipping by now, but they are still in transit to fulfillment centers. Here’s the latest information:

If you ordered a Tessel from the Seeed website (from this page): please contact Seeed directly. We do not have any information about your order; Seeed is handling everything about it, from money to manufacturing to shipping. Their support page is here. If we had to guess, we would guess your orders will ship out as soon as international pre-orders finish shipping.

If you pre-ordered a Tessel at tessel.io and are located in the United States: The Tessel 2s are en route to our fulfillment house in San Francisco. You can watch along with us as we track its progress from China to Los Angeles, through customs, and up to San Francisco (tracking). Once it arrives in San Francisco, it might take a few days for our fulfillment center to unbox everything and put it on shelves, and then a few more days as they sort out individual orders to each of your addresses. However, shipping is pretty fast once it gets sent, usually a day or two.

If you pre-ordered a Tessel at tessel.io and are international/outside the United States: Seeed is shipping these directly from the factory, so it will be more effective to contact their support directly than to email us. Their support page is here. They informed us last night that they will ship these orders this week.

For everyone: You will receive an email with tracking information when your order is sent. Thanks for sticking it out with us; we sincerely hope you find Tessel 2 worth the wait.

    With love,

    The Tessel Project

  • The wait is almost over!

    Wednesday, March 9, 2016

Hi everyone, good news from the factory. They have completed manufacturing and testing of over 80% of the first batch and expect to have the entire process completed by the end of the week.

Shipments will begin early next week and you will receive an automated email with the tracking code of your order shortly thereafter.

Feel free to email support@tessel.io if you have any questions and thanks for being so patient throughout this journey. Everyone contributing to Tessel is very excited to hear how you like your Tessel 2.

    Yours in hacking,

    The Tessel Project

  • Tessel 2 Available for Pre-Order Again!

    Wednesday, February 24, 2016

You can now place orders for Tessel 2 through our manufacturer Seeed’s store!

    Check out the order page.

You can also source modules there - here’s a page of all the Tessel things they have in the store.

If you prefer to source through Digikey or Mouser, this should be possible as well.

But wait, where’s my original pre-order?

There have only been a few early-batch Tessel 2s shipped so far. Most of you are still waiting for first-round production- but not for much longer.

We’ve just gotten word from Seeed that the PCBs are headed into surface mount soldering this afternoon (China time). They will ship out your orders over the next few weeks - you will receive an email with tracking information when yours is put in the mail.

Fresh orders from this new Seeed order page are second-round manufacturing, and will be shipped after the original orders are sent.

    Onwards and upwards!

    Love from the Tessel team.

  • Shipping Update: No News is Good News

    Wednesday, February 10, 2016

Hi all! Since many of you have been asking for updates recently, here’s the scoop:

    • Not much has changed since our last post. This is good news! The times listed in that previous post are still valid, and the minor delay we in production we mentioned was resolved as expected.
    • Seeed has produced the first 95 boards and shipped them to us. We’re doing a final check over on these boards, and then we’re sending them to our fulfillment house to begin shipping out to you (as early as next week).
    • Unless you’re one of the lucky first 95, everything is waiting on Chinese New Year to end - production resumes on February 14. At that point, Seeed will finish building the boards, ship the remaining quantity for the USA orders to our fulfillment house, and begin sending out all other orders directly to you from China.

    Frequently asked questions

When will I get my order?

It’s tough to predict exactly, but you will receive an email with a tracking number when your order is put in the mail. For the majority of backers, your Tessel will arrive some day in March.

Any update on shipping to X country?

Same answer as above. The only difference for orders to non-USA addresses is that they will be shipped to you directly from Seeed in China. You will still get an email with tracking information when your order ships.

What can I do with my Tessel 2 when it arrives?

Great question, fictional backer - glad you asked! Check out the sidebar on the Tessel 2 Start Experience for a menu of great tutorials you can browse while you wait for your Tessel to arrive.

    All the best,

    The Tessel Team

  • Backer Update: January == February

    Tuesday, February 2, 2016

    January 16, 2016

    Hi Tesselators!

We’re very excited to ship Tessel 2 in the near future. Since many of you are on the edges of your seats, we’d like to share an update.

    Shipping timelines

We’ve just heard from our manufacturers that there is a slight delay and no boards will leave the factory until January 25. This is due to a minor disturbance in Seeed Studio’s supply chain.

Our main efforts are to get your boards to you as quickly as possible. For most of you, that will be mid-February into March.

    Here’s how this will go:

    • Seeed is fulfilling all international orders; orders for United States customers will be shipped en masse to a warehouse in the Bay Area and sent out from there.
    • China celebrates the new year February 1-13, so many international orders will be shipped after the holiday.
    • We are trying to get all Tessel 2s for United States customers shipped out of China before the holiday. We will then be able to ship them out through our stateside fulfillment house.

In the meantime, we’ll charge your orders on Monday, January 18th - we’ve just been double checking a few special cases.

What are some recent developments on Tessel 2?

    Since our last email:

    • We built easy command line tools to interact with Tessel 2’s wonderful Wifi chip - you can turn it on and off to save power, and even use it as an access point
    • Binary dependencies, always a challenge with Tessel 1, are being compiled and served so that you can install and use them normally. For example, if you go to the socket.io website and try their example on a Tessel 2, it should just work
    • If you want to treat Tessel 2 like a Linux computer, root access is now as simple as t2 root
    • Firmware improvements brought all the modules up to speed with the new system
    • USB communications got 100x faster

Track milestones on this issue and please feel free to jump in! The more that gets done now, the more capable your Tessel 2 will be when it gets to you.

How can I get more frequent updates?

For those eager folks who’d like to hear from us more often, here are a few resources:

    1. You can always find our steering committee notes in this Github folder . It might not be pretty and polished, but it’s the inside scoop on our main priorities
    2. Twitter @tesselproject works for quick questions
    3. There is nearly always someone on our slack channel - especially join here if you’re interested in the status of a particular feature

For the rest of you, please enjoy our very non-spammy email list ;)

    With love,

    The Tessel Team
